Role Playing Game

Cho Mahou Tairyku Wozz is a game produced in 1995 by Bullet Proof Software and developed by RED. Balaam, an evil demon, has arrived in the world of Wozz and a poison rain has turned its inhabitants into monsters. The king ask his wizard to use his magic and summon three fighters from the human world to help them. The three humans are from different nationalities, the first one is the Japanese girl (Reona Kitazato), the second the blond American (Shot Phoenix) and the last one is a Chinese boy (Chun Chingtao). Each of them will also receive special skills, weapons and some money. They are now ready to start their long journey and free the world of Wozz. The game is a traditional japanese Role Playing Game, your heroes move around on a world map which zooms in when they enter a village or an important location. Fights happen most of the time at random and are round based. The best feature of the game is certainly the option to create your own vehicles and items. A good knowledge of the japanese language is necessary, it can still be playable but you will miss most of the story.

Cho Mahou Tairyku Wozz looks like a standard Role Playing Game at first. Graphics are well drawn and detailed but I would have expected a bit more from the enemies animations. There is only one sprite per enemy and each attack is symbolized by a slight move to the side. If you have played some of Square's Final Fantasy games, controls will look very familiar. The frequency of fights can be frustrating and it can take a while to walk from one location to the next. But the ability to create new items and vehicles is a nice feature. I should also mention the behavior of the three heroes who just do not follow you in a line but are sometimes delayed because they have decided to look around for instance. Fans of japanese RPGs , Cho Mahou Tairyku Wozz offers great moments and visuals and I recommend it.
